ABSTRACT: This research investigates strategies for improving retention rates in technical schools, focusing on the factors that contribute to student dropouts and measures to enhance student retention. The objectives were to (1) identify the key factors affecting retention rates in technical schools, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of current retention strategies, and (3) propose new strategies to improve retention rates. A survey design was employed to gather data from students, educators, and administrators, providing a comprehensive analysis of retention issues and solutions. The sample size comprised 220 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to ensure relevant insights from those directly involved in technical education. The case study focused on Kaduna State, Nigeria, known for its technical education institutions. Findings revealed that factors such as financial constraints, lack of academic support, and inadequate career counseling significantly contributed to low retention rates. Effective strategies included providing financial aid, offering academic support services, and implementing career counseling programs. Recommendations included increasing financial support for students, enhancing academic and career counseling services, and fostering a supportive learning environment to improve retention rates in technical schools.
